CCSE English publishes independent, plain-English guidance about Spain's CCSE exam. This page explains how we choose sources, verify changing information, separate official rules from study advice, and correct mistakes.
Our Role
CCSE English is an independent study tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instituto Cervantes or the Government of Spain. Instituto Cervantes remains the source of record for CCSE registration, dates, rules, results, certificates, and official preparation materials.
Our job is to help English-speaking residents understand that information, reach the right official service, and prepare without hiding the Spanish used in the real exam.
Source Priority
For consequential facts, we use primary sources in this order:
- Instituto Cervantes exam pages, manuals, guides, and announcements.
- Spanish Ministry of Justice and official electronic-government guidance.
- Applicable laws, orders, and other official publications when needed.
Third-party experiences can add practical context, but they do not replace current official sources for rules or administrative instructions. Source links appear near important claims or in a clearly labelled source list.
Verification and Updates
Factual guides display a Last verified date. That date should change only after the relevant official sources have been checked. Registration, portal, dates, results, and certificate pages are reviewed more frequently because they can change during the year. Preparation-material pages are reviewed whenever Instituto Cervantes publishes a new annual manual.
A future year's exam dates may be available before its manual or question set. We keep those facts separate and do not describe study content as updated until the matching official material has been published and checked.
Official Facts and Our Advice
Our guides distinguish among three kinds of information:
- Official rule: information from a current primary source.
- Our explanation: a plain-English account of what the rule means.
- Our recommendation: independent study or planning advice.
The site provides general educational information, not legal advice. People with unusual, urgent, exemption, dispensation, or legally complex cases should use official guidance or a qualified professional.
App Claims and Commercial Independence
CCSE English benefits when readers download the app. That commercial interest does not change the order of the answer: official actions and free official materials come first when they solve the reader's immediate need. We promote the app when bilingual explanation, practice, review, or readiness tracking is a relevant next step.
Claims about the app are checked against the current product and bundled study pack. Instituto Cervantes describes its own CCSE app as the only official app; CCSE English always describes itself as independent.
Authorship and Tools
Guides are maintained by the CCSE English editorial team. Research, drafting, and validation may be assisted by software, but factual claims must be checked against the cited sources before publication. A page does not claim firsthand exam experience, legal expertise, or professional review unless that is true and specifically identified.

Matt is the creator of CCSE English. The guide My Experience Preparing for the CCSE describes his own experience preparing for the exam as an English speaker. That account does not present him as a lawyer, immigration adviser, or representative of Instituto Cervantes.

If you find an inaccurate, outdated, unclear, or broken instruction, email [email protected] or use Help & Support in the CCSE English app. Include the page title, the statement in question, and any relevant official source. We will check substantive reports and update the page when warranted.
